Sweet as Cherry Pie Beer Bread

by Clean Plate Club member Farihah Ali

This sweet twist on beer bread uses two surprise ingredients – yogurt and pie filling! Change up the yogurt and pie filling flavors to come up with all kinds of variations. For a non-alcoholic version, feel free to use soda instead.

Ready in: Level: Easy
Prep: Cook: Yields: 10 Servings

  • 3 c whole wheat flour

  • 1 T baking powder

  • 1 t salt

  • 1/3 c light brown sugar

  • 6 oz Stonyfield Organic Fat Free French Vanilla Yogurt

  • 3/4 c light cherry pie filling

  • 12 oz beer (or soda)

  • 1 T butter (melted)

  • white sugar (for sprinkling)

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375°. Spray a loaf pan with cooking spray and set aside.

Step 2

Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl.

Step 3

Add the yogurt and cherry pie filling, and carefully combine with dry ingredients. Slowly add beer, and mix everything together. The batter should remain lumpy.

Step 4

Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and bake for 45 minutes. Leave oven on, but remove pan.

Step 5

Spread the melted butter over the top of the loaf and then sprinkle with sugar. Place back into oven and bake an additional 15 minutes, or until you insert a toothpick into the center and it comes out dry.

Step 6

Cool pan on wire rack and then remove bread from pan to continue cooling.
