As a mother of two young boys, we go through an obscene amount of yogurt on a weekly basis. To avoid boredom and keep my kids excited about eating nutritious foods, I like to get creative when it comes to toppings and mix-ins for our daily yogurt fix. Whether you prefer to keep it sweet or savory, here are a few fun new ideas to keep even the pickiest of eaters satisfied during snack time!
Trail-Mix Yogurt: Start with your favorite yogurt base and sprinkle with chopped roasted peanuts, raisins and chia seeds. We like to use plain Greek yogurt which is low in sugar and packed with protein. Peanuts and chia seeds add a crunchy texture and a major protein boost to go along with the naturally sweetened raisins. The end result is a perfectly balanced snack full of nutrients that keeps little ones satisfied for hours.
Chocolate Coconut Yogurt Cups: One of my favorite healthy dessert recipes, I love letting my boys sprinkle their favorite yogurt with shredded coconut flakes, chocolate chips and raisins. A little goes a long way with this one which is why I love using the pre-portioned YoKids cups. Healthy enough for a snack but sweet enough for dessert – your whole family will love these Chocolate Coconut Yogurt Cups!
Savory Greek Yogurt: While we typically think of yogurt as a sweet snack or dessert, I love using plain unsweetened yogurt and turning it into a savory treat. For this Greek-inspired snack, I start with whole milk smooth and creamy plain yogurt and top it with sliced cherry tomatoes, pitted Kalamata olives and minced scallions. You could even go a step further and add cucumber chunks and crumbled feta cheese! The sky is the limit with this irresistible savory yogurt snack.
