LGalvezFeatureWhen a person decides to live a more eco-friendly life, the process can seem a bit overwhelming at first. The truth is, taking small steps, making small changes is really the best way to go green. It’s more affordable, much easier, and you’re more likely to stick with it if you don’t feel so overwhelmed.

That’s why I’m sharing with you these five incredibly easy ways to go green in one of the rooms you occupy the most in your house on a daily basis… the kitchen! In fact, if you’re already living a green-er lifestyle, you might already be doing some of these easy changes and not realizing just how your choices impact the environment and your family’s health!

Choose Cloth

Whether we’re talking napkins or paper towels, choosing cloth and reusable options is always the best way to go. In the long run you’ll be saving money [and quite a bit more than you may even think!] and the immediate impact will be quite obvious too – you’ll be saving a large amount of waste from hitting the landfill and your trash cans.

Buy Organic

Buying organic isn’t just better for your family’s health, it’s better for the environment. When you use your dollars at the grocery store to choose organic products, you’re speaking to all companies and manufacturers about what is important to consumers. When you choose organic products like Stonyfield Organic Yogurt, you are choosing foods that have NOT been genetically modified and that have not been doused in pesticides and chemicals, which is both better for the soil and environment as a whole AND better for your health!

Clean Green

There are a few ways to clean green, depending where you land on the green spectrum. You can make your own cleaners with essential oils, use vinegar [it will clean almost anything!], or choose environmentally friendly cleaners when you shop. No matter which one you choose, you’ll be doing your part by using less chemicals in your kitchen.

Meal Planning

You might not see meal planning as a green choice, but it definitely is. By planning your meals, you are more likely to eat healthy – no grabbing “this” and “that” when you’re at the store because you have a laid out plan of a menu. You’re also more likely to make healthy choices both at the grocery store and at home.

Snack Smart

Along with meal planning, snacking smart goes hand in hand with a green kitchen. One great way to snack smart is buy products in bulk [saves on the amount of packaging and waste!] and have healthy, pre-made snacks, like these Qi’a Yogurt Parfaits in your refrigerator so they’re ready to go when hunger strikes.
