Stonyfield Farm's Menu for Change program
is designed to improve the food being offered to students in our
nation's schools. Since 2003, we've helped schools replace junk food
vending machines with machines filled with student-approved natural
and organic snacks. We've worked with school and community
groups across the nation to change the menu for today's
youth.
Why is a yogurt company concerned about school food?
The health of our nation's children is everyone's concern.
- Obesity and overweight rates among our children have been rising
dramatically for two decades.
- One in seven children in our country is obese, according to
the Centers for Disease Control. This is an
epidemic.
- For the first time, the current generation of youth may have
shorter lives than their parents because of the health problems
that arise with extra weight—diabetes, high blood pressure,
heart problems, and a higher risk of certain cancers. With their
extra weight, today's children are already developing these adult
conditions and/or are at higher risk of developing them as adults.
Here are some things we're trying to do, and some things you can
do if you share our concern about this problem. Our overall
goal is to make healthy choices the easy choice in school. |
