Fern
Donegan Family Dairy
My name is Fern, and I was born on the Donegan Family Dairy on April 19, 2007. I've already given birth to four calves.
While most of my herd mates are 100 percent Jerseys, I've got one quarter Holstein in my genetic makeup. I'm not sure, but maybe that's where I got this dark patch on my face that's almost black. At least I stand out in a crowd.
Not much fazes me. That's why farmer Emily says I'm a "pretty chill" cow. Probably because I'm so hardy—I'm built like a barrel and pretty solid—I don't mind it when we get caught in the occasional snow storm up here. None of us do, really. I'm pretty content wherever I am, as long as it's here on this farm!
Emily gave me the name Fern because I was born when she'd been reading "Charlotte's Web", which has a character named Fern. She also thought it was a nice springtime name, and I think so too!
