The Stonyfield 5K and Fair: Celebrating Our Neighbors and MoOoving our feet!

This year marked the seventh annual Stonyfield 5K & Fair, and it was one of the best yet! While it may not have been the sunniest of days, we were cow-jumped-over-the-moon happy that the seemingly never-ending rain of the previous weeks decided to hold off. It was a perfect day to enjoy running, walking, cheering, eating and chatting with friends and family here at the Stonyfield Yogurt Works headquarters.

Nearly 1,400 runners and walkers showed up bright and early to start the day with a 5K race on the often underestimated Stonyfield course. (I’m looking at you Delta Drive, and that mini “Heartbreak Hill” incline!) From elite runners to 5K newbies, we were so excited to see each and every one of you lace up your kicks for a jaunt through Londonderry. We had runners and walkers from 13 different states (someone “hoofed” it to the east coast all the way from California!), and there were 103 New Hampshire towns represented among this amazing crew of folks who showed up with a smile ready to get a moOoove on!

Hosting the Stonyfield 5K at our Headquarters in Londonderry is sort of like deciding to have a big ol’ BBQ potluck in your backyard, telling all your neighbors (even the goofy dude two houses down who you kind of secretly hope will forget to come), and then flinging open the front gate never really knowing if you bought enough ketchup or if people will think your garden gnomes are weird. But you do it because you just want to celebrate being neighbors (yes, including the goofy dude), and let’s face it you just really like putting on a party.

That’s what it’s like for us here at Stonyfield. We just want to put on an awesome shindig and see who shows up – while also taking the opportunity to celebrate our community and New England heritage! We love that we get to share all of the amazing businesses that just so happen to be based in our backyard with you. The 5K & Fair is our chance to put down the yogurt spoon and hang out with the people who make this community all that it is.  We even managed to buy enough ketchup for the Applegate hot dogs

This yearly Saturday tradition is our chance to say “THANK YOU!” It is a chance to get outdoors, move those feet  – whether it be a 5:14 mile like our race winner (!), or a leisurely stroll – and then enjoy the entirely FREE fair held right in the Stonyfield parking lot. This year’s fair was chockablock full of food & drink for all appetites, live music, games, and the debut of the first ever “YoKids Dairy Cow Dash” for the kiddos. If you didn’t make your way over to the kid’s obstacle course, you missed out on seeing some seriously happy faces! Even though the line was long (we had over 250 kids join in the Dash!), everyone patiently waited for their turn to “walk the farm fence” balance beam or crawl through the giant hay tunnel.

Speaking of long lines – you people know a good thing when you see it! Lines formed all day for pizza from Rustic Crust, New England Coffee, and of course the best egg sandwiches around from Pete & Gerry’s topped off with Cabot Cheese. While you were waiting for your egg “sammy” you might have noticed the “B Corp™  Fort” where a few special companies who are  Certified B Corps (just like Stonyfield) got to hang out. A special shout out to our B Corp™ buddies: Pete & Gerry’s, Cabot Cheese, Revision Energy and Badger. We are so proud to be a Certified B Corporation®, and it was a special honor to have other socially and environmentally conscious businesses be a part of this day!

This is one of our favorite days of the year, and we are so appreciative of everyone who came out to join us for our own little block party on Saturday, May 13th. Whether you ran, walked, cheered, drank, snacked on yogurt, or were bummed you were too big to do the Dairy Cow Dash (or all of the above), we want to extend a very heartfelt THANK YOU! for being a part of this special day. We are “udderly” grateful to have the chance to host this event, and we can’t wait to see each of you next year!
