Meet Stonyfield Clean Plate Club member Farihah Ali of Spice’s Bites
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog – and what inspired you to start it.
I’m Farihah Ali – I live in the Atlanta area with my husband and our crazy cat Chloe. I’m a CPA in “real life,” and I love to travel, read, eat, and write! Spice’s Bites started as and continues to be a way for me to share the ways food impacts my life – I primarily share recipes, but I will also write about our travels, fun restaurants we’ve tried, and other randomness. I’ve met some great friends along the way and have had some amazing opportunities to work with some great brands such as Stonyfield Farms.
Tell us about one food tradition that you participate in.
It’s more trying to start a food tradition. I’m the eldest of the grandchildren in our extended family, and I would love to document the recipes of our family, along with stories, so that we have something to share with our generation and beyond. We’re all spread out over the U.S. and over the world, but we’re all family and I hope that this is something that can bring us closer.
What’s your favorite dish to make and why?
I don’t have one favorite dish per se, but I love being able to recreate dishes I ate growing up, or at least my versions of them.
Favorite dish to make with yogurt?
Smoothies! They’re quick, easy, healthy, and so versatile. I recently bought a small ice cream maker, so I have a feeling I will be obsessed with frozen yogurt soon!
What are your ‘food rules’?
Too many rules make me want to break them! To me, food is something to be enjoyed and savored, and if there are too many rules then it’s not fun anymore.
What about organic is most important to you?
I like that I have the option to choose organic. I try to choose it for certain things if feasible but I don’t go crazy.
Favorite season for cooking?
My favorite season for cooking is when it’s not tax season! But to be honest, it’s probably a tie between fall and late spring/summer. Fall because you have Halloween, Thanksgiving, it’s starting to cool down so it’s time for comfort foods. Spring and summer because of all the fruit, I naturally want to eat healthier, and it’s an excuse to try out all those popsicle or ice cream recipes!
What’s your favorite quote or saying about food?
“Eat what you love!”
