Stonyfield Introduces First Naturally Sweetened 100-Calorie 0% Fat Organic Yogurt
Londonderry, NH – Aug. 15, 2011 – The perfect snack just got even better, naturally. The first naturally sweetened 100-calorie 0% fat organic yogurt has been introduced by Stonyfield, the world’s leading organic yogurt company. Now with 30% less sugar than the original recipe, yogurt lovers who crave a light option with no artificial sweeteners finally have a tasty yogurt for them.
"We know how much our fans love our 0% fat yogurt, so it was important to us to make sure it stayed really delicious. We found that a combination of sugar and stevia, both organic of course, worked best," said Gary Hirshberg, Stonyfield president and CE-Yo. "It took some doing but we’re delighted to have crafted a delicious recipe for an organic yogurt with less sugar and nothing artificial, and we think our fans will find it well worth the wait."
Stonyfield 100-Calorie 0% Fat Organic Yogurt is made with organic stevia, a zero-calorie sweetener that comes from the leaves of the stevia plant. A natural herb that has been used as a sweetener in cultures around the world for centuries, stevia is rapidly becoming popular as a natural sweetener because it offers a sweet taste without being chemically derived. Stonyfield combines organic stevia with a touch of organic cane sugar to create a great tasting organic 100-calorie, totally natural yogurt
Like all of its yogurts, Stonyfield’s new 100-Calorie 0% Fat Organic Yogurt is made with certified organic milk and other organic ingredients produced without the use of toxic persistent pesticides, chemical fertilizers, antibiotics or synthetic growth hormones. Like before, it still offers a full seven grams of protein per six-ounce serving, is low in cholesterol and sodium, and provides a good source of calcium (30% DRV) and vitamin D (20% DRV).
Starting this month, all Stonyfield Smooth & Creamy 0% Fat Organic Yogurt except Plain will be sweetened with organic stevia. It will be available in six-ounce cups in eight delicious flavors: French Vanilla, Peach, Black Cherry, Lotsa Lemon, Pomegranate Berry, Key Lime, Strawberry and Chocolate Underground (130 calories per serving). French Vanilla will also come in a 32-ounce container (130 calories per serving), and Strawberry and French Vanilla 0% Fat Probiotic yogurt will also be available in four-ounce 4-packs (70 calories per serving). The suggested retail price will remain the same at $0.99 per six-ounce cup; $2.49 per four-ounce 4-pack and $3.89 per 32 ounce container.
