Republicans can learn about the environment as they gather

The Republican National Convention is underway and The Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Conventions is taking advantage of the opportunity of having all those people in one place. The Coalition is sponsoring some events during the convention to provide the delegates with a chance to learn a little bit about the environment. Events for delegates include a waterfront bike tour, a riverboat cruise, and a "green" buildings and sustainable park tour.

The political conventions of both parties this summer have been the starting point for this coalition, which describes its mission as:

*Promote environmental best practices for large conventions, starting with the 2004 national political conventions in Boston and New York

• Showcase these best practices to inform the public and assembled political leaders about challenges to global sustainability—particularly climate change—and demonstrate sound solutions for long-term economic and social vitality

• Establish a legacy of environmental, energy, water, transportation, and waste management best practices for future large meetings, urban living and commerce

Our lids are off to the Coalition for keeping a green eye on these types of mega-events!
