Hershey

I bet your wondering why I was named Hershey. Well, if you look closely at my picture you’ll see I’m neither black and white like a Holstein nor honey-brown typical of Jerseys. I’m chocolate brown and white. That’s because I’m half Jersey and half Holstein. Born on November 7, 2006, nobody expected these markings or colors. Sometimes farmers choose to breed a Holstein cow to a Jersey bull because Jersey calves are smaller when born and can be less stressful on the dam (mother), especially when it is her first time calving.

Because I am half Jersey and half Holstein, I am smaller than the other cows. Thanks to my spunky personality, I don’t let my small size get in the way. I’ve been known to push my way into the fed bunk when I’m hungry. I also get easily excited. When Matt and Hannah, my farmer’s kids, come to visit I like to get them to play by running, kicking and jumping. They have to be careful though, that I don’t accidentally kick them.
