The President’s Pasture
This month, I’m excited to announce the launch of three yummy
new products, two of them for our littlest yogurt lovers. YoBaby
Plus Fruit & Cereal is a delicious whole milk yogurt with
apple and cereal puree on-the-bottom. Another convenience for moms
is our new YoBaby Drinkable Yogurt Multipacks coming in late August.
These 4-packs of 6 oz. bottles are perfect for moms (and babies)
on the go. And, with Chocolate
O’Soy, we combine the health benefits of soy with the
craving-quencher of chocolate.
Don’t forget that you can still Bid
With Your Lid—help us allocate $100,000 to three different
environmental organizations. We’re taking votes until October
31.
Speaking of voting, there’s no denying it’s election
season and I want to encourage everyone who can to register
to vote. Nearly 50 percent of eligible voters didn’t vote
in 2000. Don’t stay home in 2004. Make
your vote “cow’nt”!

Employee Spotlight: Victor spends his days in the cold, and loves it
Although he was born and raised in the warmth of Mexico, Victor Salas
now spends every day—winter and summer—in temperatures of
35 - 40°F, and he doesn’t mind. Victor works in Stonyfield Farm’s
huge, refrigerated warehouse, shipping our products to the right places
and helping to train the 20 or so forklift operators working with him.
Victor has been employed here 8 years, though he came to this country
25 years ago as a young man. “I had to come see for myself,”
he says. “This is the best place in the world to work. I like it
here.” Before working for Stonyfield Farm, Victor tried other jobs,
including apple-picking in Washington state. At first his work at Stonyfield
Farm was difficult because he couldn’t understand the language or
make himself understood. After two years of English classes, he did very
well, though, and is also happy to have more co-workers who speak Spanish.
Victor and his wife, Claudia, who also worked for Stonyfield, have three
children, including 4-year-old twin girls.
Love
letter: Serena is wowed by our soy products
I have tried various soy yogurts, and they were all pretty OK, but none
of them had quite the right consistency or texture. Then I was walkin'
in Fairway...[and] this O'Soy was just sitting there…I took two
and added them to my cart, not really expecting them to be any different
than the cultured soy products I'd had before, but hopeful because of
how good I know your other products to be. I had one for breakfast this
morning. I peeled back the label and was a little concerned to see something
that looked like real yogurt instead of the "soup" I'd grown
accustomed to. I pondered, "They have added so much thickener! Is
this going to taste like chalk?" I stirred it up. "Actual pieces
of fruit? This is encouraging." I took a bite. Mmmmm. And then I
re-read the ingredients to make sure I hadn't missed the word "cream."
Wow. Just... wow. This stuff is good. I re-read the ingredients to make
sure I also hadn't missed anything "bad." Ok, I'm not too happy
that sugar is the second ingredient, but this is so darned good that the
amount of sugar is forgivable. Inulin. What is this "inulin?"
I looked it up online, and it is actually GOOD for you. Wow. Just... wow.
So now I am writing my first ever "happy customer" letter.
Thaaaaank You!
