Make Holiday Ornaments from Yogurt Lids!

Here’s a fun, easy holiday craft project that’ll teach kids about reuse.
Materials: Two foil yogurt cup lids; a paperclip; a ballpoint pen; glue.
Directions:
1. Clean and flatten two foil lids, then turn them silver side down, with the tab facing away from you.
2. Use a pen to lightly press a design (snowman, snowflake, etc) into the lid. If your design includes a word, write with reversed letters, from right to left.
3. Glue or tape the two colored sides together, matching up the tabs.
4. Pierce a hole in the tab, then thread a paperclip or ornament hook through it. |

Shower Shorter, Save Water

Conserve water at home by showering shorter. A company called “Ripple Products” makes water-resistant timers that stick to the shower wall and help you keep track of the minutes. Limit your shower to four minutes and you could use as little as 10 gallons of water (with a low-flow showerhead). You’ll be conserving a valuable resource and saving money on hot water too. More Americans Buying Organic
According to the Organic Trade Association (OTA), U.S. organic consumer sales grew 21 percent in 2006 to reach $17.7 billion. More than 95 percent of these sales were food sales. Organic remains one of the food industry’s fastest growing segments. OTA foresees about 18 percent annual growth for organic sales over the next three years.
These and other results of the Organic Trade Association’s 2007 Manufacturers Survey became publicly available last month.

Your Votes Sent $40,812 to National Park Foundation
We received the last of your Bid with Your Lid votes on October 15th, then counted them up and made the donations you asked for. We gave $40,812 to National Park Foundation; $33,753 to Sustainable Harvest International; and $25,434 to New American Dream.
Each year, we ask our yogurt lovers to help us divvy up a $100,000 Bid with Your Lid donation that goes to three environmental groups. We give each group $20,000 right off the top, then your votes determine how we split the remaining $40,000. Participants cast votes either online or by mailing in 10, 20, or 30 yogurt cup lids. |
