Kosher Questions & Answers
Are all Stonyfield Farm products certified kosher?
Yes. All of our products in the U.S. are certified by the Orthodox Union, a kosher
certification agency well known throughout the U.S. and internationally
for its high standards.
Is the Stonyfield plant inspected by a rabbi?
Yes. An Orthodox Union rabbinic field representative performs unannounced
inspections of our plant on a regular basis. He inspects material storage,
manufacturing procedures, and kosher certificates for ingredients to ensure
Stonyfield Farm’s compliance with strict OU policies.
What is the difference between OU and OU-D?
Some OU certified products display the letter “D” after the
OU symbol to indicate that there is a dairy component in the product,
or that the product was manufactured or processed on equipment used for
products containing dairy.
Why is Stonyfield Farm O’Soy Cultured Soy
certified OU-D even though it is a non-dairy product?
Our O'Soy cultured soy products are manufactured on equipment which is
also used to process dairy yogurt products. Although the equipment is
thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before and after O'Soy production, there
is still a possibility that a trace amount of dairy residue might exist
in the O'Soy.
In addition, some of the cultures in O'Soy contain trace amounts of
dairy. Since the cultures are used in very small amounts in the O'Soy
product, these traces of dairy in the finished product are further diluted.
Why aren’t Stonyfield Farm products certified
kosher for Passover?
This would require that we change our unique blend of cultures and other
ingredients in the formulations. As a result, consistency in the product
profile (flavor, body, and texture), product quality, and shelf life would
be altered.
